#306 - Changing over from Sugar Plugin for Microsoft Outlook v6.2.0
Hi there I have migrated over to SuiteCRM from SugarPro. I am currently running the Sugar Plugin for Microsoft Outlook. I use it only to sync contacts. Each contact in SugarCRM (and now SuiteCRM) has the checkbox "Sync to Outlook" ticked, which flags whether or not it will sync to my Outlook.
If I uninstall this plugin from Outlook and purchase and install the official SuiteCRM plugin, will it work with this same field that is currently already checked within SuiteCRM? Or will I need to go through all the existing synced contacts and re-check them with a new Sync to Outlook field? And if I have to do the latter, I'm concerned that I will end up with thousands of duplicate contacts in Outlook that are already there from the previous sync process.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Please watch also case #297. Synching is not only a question of the 'Sync to Outlook’ check box selected but also of Contacts be assigned to the user.
Contacts that are not assigned to you will not be synched even if the check box is selected. How was the behavior in SugarPro in this regard?

Hi Vox789, no I didn't know that the contact must also be assigned to you! That's a major disaster! If that is the case, the plugin will be unworkable as all our staff deal with the same people and need their contacts syncd.
Can you answer my main question? Will it simply reuse the existing syncing field from SugarPro and leave the existing contacts that I've already syncd to outlook?

That is the case, very definitely! Regarding your main question: I don't know. What I know regarding the Official SuiteCRM Outlook Plugin is the following : If a contact is synched to Outlook (user assigned + check box checked) and you change the user assignment later on, the contact will be deleted in Outlook. By the way: I would delete all contacts in Outlook and re-synch them entirely. However, only possible if you do not have other contacts than SuiteCRM contacts. By the way, I think I'm gonna test the Implicit plugin.

Thanks vox789.
Unfortunately I have about 2,300 contacts, of which 1000 are CRM-sync'd contacts. I can easily identify the CRM contacts as they are categorised as SugarCRM. But before I deleted them, I would want to be sure that they would be resunc'd back (as the risk is that SuiteCRM might uncheck the Sync box and then I would have to manually edit 1,000 contacts to re-check the Sync box).
I'm going to hold off installing this plugin. Is there anywhere SuiteCRM talk about future feature releases and timeframes for this plugin? Do they read these posts? I would also be keen to hear what you think of the Implicit plugin.

Hi there,
https://store.suitecrm.com/support/SuiteCRM-official-outlook-plugin/297
As vox789 has stated already this is a feature raised. We do have it scheduled in a future release which will be 3.0.4 with an ETA of early/middle of May.

Hi
I see 3.0.4 has been released. As per your comment above, does this have the added functionality of not requiring a contact to be assigned to the user in order to sync it?
Hi glynne,
No, v3.0.4 does not have this feature.
Ok, but previously you said it would be. Which release and when will have this feature. There is no point in our company purchasing this until it is available as we all wish to sync the same contacts.

Hi There,
Yes, unfortunately there issues due to the new feature and priorities were changed for 3.0.4. Sorry for this inconvenience and that all we can confirm at this time is that non assigned contact sync is on our roadmap.

Ok, thanks team. Can you share your roadmap and approximate timelines please?

The field we check is 'sync_contact'. To be honest I don't know what field SugarCRM uses, but if it is 'sync_contact' you're fine.
