#743 - Unwanted Creating winmail.dat file

Hi,

I am using a Paid version of suiteCRM Outlook Plugin.

We are facing a major issue, whenever i send a emails the attachments are getting delivered as "winmail.dat",

I have tried all the options for email compose format to HTML and message format to 'Convert to HTML forma or convert to Plain Text format''- but the result is same.

Specially the recipient of my email message is have different OS like MAC or Oxygen.

Can anyone please advise a solution, as I am tired of getting complaints about winmail.dat file.

    Hi Monika,

    The winmail.dat file is an Outlook specific file that is created when you send an email using the RTF format. In order to prevent this file from being included as an attachment you can make the following changes in your Outlook settings:

    1. Click File in Outlook.
    2. Select Options.
    3. Go to the Mail category.
    4. Make sure HTML or Plain Text is selected for Compose messages in this format: under Compose messages.
    5. Now make sure Convert to HTML format or Convert to Plain Text format is selected for When sending messages in Rich Text format to Internet recipients: under Message format.
    6. Click OK.

    It is however possible that even with these settings that the winmail.dat file can still be sent. In Outlook 2016 you would need to remove the email address you are sending a mail to from your contacts, right click it and select properties. From here you can select "send plain text" under internet format which should resolve your issue.

    Hi Monika,

    Unfortunately this isn't something that can be resolved by the SuiteCRM Outlook plugin as this falls under standard Outlook functionality. I would recommend taking a look at the official Microsoft documentation for more information and possible solutions. Thanks.

      Hi,

      I tried all the suggested changes, but unfortunately the result is same.

      To my understanding, this is not an Outlook functionality, because when I disable the Official SuiteCRM Outlook Plugin and sends email through same systems and outlook, the attachments are getting delivered properly to the recipients using Mac Mail etc.

      Would appreciate your help in resolving this issue.

    Hi Monika,

    We've looked further into this issue and determined that unfortunately this isn't something we will be able to resolve. This bug is caused by Microsoft failing to properly implement open standards when dealing with attachments and will need to be fixed on their end.

      Hi,

      Sorry for the delay in response.

      My concern is when I disable the SuiteCRM Outlook Plugin and sends the emails It goes well and recipient using MAC Mail receives e-mail attachment properly. And on the other part, the moment I send e-mail with active Outlook Plugin for availing the benefit of SuiteCRM the attachments are getting delivered as "winmail.dat".

      Request for valuable suggestions to resolve this issue.

    Unfortunately this is an issue we can not resolve due to Microsoft standards and will close this issue.
