Implicit FrontEnd provides deep integration with Microsoft Outlook. In addition to full two-way synchronization of Outlook data such as contacts and calendars, it allows you to sync CRM data including accounts, opportunities, quotes etc. so that you can do all your CRM work without leaving Outlook. In addition, FrontEnd allows you to leverage the rich Outlook functionality to provide tools such as manual and automatic email archiving, collaboration and approval, opportunity tracking and more.
#928 - Upgrading from Outlook 2010 to 2016
Hi there
Can you tell me if there is anything I need to be aware of (and any special steps I need to take) when I upgrade our versions of Outlook 2010 to 2016? Your plugin is working fine currently but I don't want to lose any current sync settings that might trigger issues after having completed the Outlook updates. Basically, I just want to know what do I need to do to ensure a smooth changeover to a new version of Outlook.
thanks a lot. Glynne

Hello,
From the plugin perspective, you should not have any problem upgrading to 2016. There is only one issue you need to be aware of and that is the 'bitness' of Outlook. If you are upgrading from 32 to 32 bit or 64 to 64, then it should be fine, but if Outlook's 'bitness' is changing, you need to uninstall the add-in and re-install it after upgrade so it can correctly detect and install the appropriate components.

So will it retain the settings during the migration, or do I need to set it up from scratch? And will it "remember" what records that have already been sync'd and not try and do it again, thereby creating duplicates? This is the experience I had with the official SugarCRM plugin.

If you are just upgrading Outlook and not re-installing FrontEnd it should retain all the synchronization information

It appears that I will have to completely remove Outlook 2010 before I install Outlook 2016, which sounds like I will then loose all the Implicit settings. After I reinstall Implicit, and I reload the settings, will it recognise that the contacts that have been previously imported and not redo them, thereby creating duplicates? I don't want to have to manually clean up 2000 duplicated contacts. Thanks.

In that case, make sure to uninstall FrontEnd, upgrade Outlook and then re-install FrontEnd. It will not duplicate contacts. During the initial sync, it will match SuiteCRM contacts to those already in Outlook and if they exist, it would connect the matching pairs.
