#5714 - Admin area and navigation controls broken after plugin installation

I followed the installation guide to install this plugin on my SuiteCRM 8.8.0 instance. However, after step 2 (btw. there's no step 3 in the instructions), my instance appeared to be broken. My top navigation bar was gone, lots of text labels were missing, the user context menu (top right corner) only showed "Logout" as an option and when attempting to navigate to /#/administration I was presented with a white page.

Log files where showing the following warning:

php.WARNING: Warning: Undefined variable $sugar_version {"exception":"[object] (ErrorException(code: 0): Warning: Undefined variable $sugar_version at /bitnami/suitecrm/public/legacy/custom/modules/Administration/Ext/Administration/administration.ext.php:8)"} []

I managed to "fix" the issue my manually coping the public/legacy/custom/modules/Administration/Ext/Administration/administration.ext.php from a fresh, clean installation into my existing one, replacing the old file. This way, menus got to work again. I immediately uninstalled the Internal Notes plugin again.

This seems like a pretty severe issue. Any ideas on a permanent solution?
