#4019 - Generated Excel file is corrupted

Open Bug? created by prosumer Verified Purchase 2 years ago

We've been using MailMerge for almost two years now both in a production and a staging environment. Both systems run SuiteCRM version 7.11.22 and use the same MailMerge templates. With some templates we have the following issue, but only in our production environment: After creating an Excel file, which used to work perfectly fine early and still does work perfectly fine in the staging environment, we get the following error massige when trying to open it in Microsoft Excel: "Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid". Since both SuiteCRM and MailMerge versions are the same and the document template is identical, too, we don't have any cloue what causes this error. What's even stranger: the corrupted file cannot be opened with, for example, Libre Office either, but can be access with OnlyOffice. Any ideas how we can fix that problem?

Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

Since in the staging environment it works and in production it does not, it is possible that there is some difference in the installation (although I guess you have already made sure that this is not the case) or that there are data that cause that the excel is not generated properly.

Does it happen with any template or only some specific templates and in certain modules?

You could also send us an example of a template that fails, but a template that does not include custom field data, so that we can test it ourselves. Since you say that in staging the document generation works well, we suppose that this test will not be worth much. You could also send us some of the erroneously generated files to see if we can detect what is the cause of not being able to visualize it.

    Regards

Hi, thanks for your quick response. I'd like to send you an erroneous file with one fictitious record generated by our production system. Perhaps you'll be able to tell me what the problem is and why the file cannot be opened using excel. How should I send it to you?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards
