#2347 - Hierarchical tags?
Hello,
Is it possible to create a hierarchy of tags? A system where each tag could have a multiple children (and multiple parents) would allow us to categorize our data by category, subcategory, sub-sub-category, etc.
Thanks! Jean-Philippe

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us. Currently add-on doesn't support hierarchy of tags. It is savings tags in individual records in to the text area field as comma separated multiple tags. But you can add multiple tags to the single records.

Thanks for the fast reply!
It would be nice to see hierarchical tags in the future. My staff and I have been wanting to classify our data this way for some time.
For example, some of our contacts are university professors ; we'd like to be able to tag mechanical engineering profs as being an experts in "vibration" and/or in "acoustics", both of which would be under tag "mechanical engineering". A search for "mechanical engineering" would list all professors tagged as either "vibration" or "acoustics". The same system would allow us to find companies based on a similar category structure.
Thanks, jp

Hello,
If your main concern for the classify the data then we can do some customization to achieve it. For that we can provide the MultiSelect option into the searching for the TagMe field. That way you can search/classify all the professors with the expertise "vibration" and/or in "acoustics". Let us know your thoughts on it.

Thanks Team for your reply.
I'm not sure what the MultiSelect option would bring, but to be clear, in the prof example above, our intent is to save us from having to tag an item as both "mechanical engineering" and "vibration". The item would be tagged once as "vibration". Then later, when searching for "mechanical engineering" (the parent tag of "vibration"), the item tagged as "vibration" would be listed (even though that item was never explicitly tagged as "mechanical engineering").
If we have to add multiple (related) tags to an item, then we'd just go with the basic TagMe add-on.
Thanks, jp

Hello,
What I mean is that In search view of SuiteCRM You will have multi-selection of tags instead of the text box to search, in that way you can select both Mechanical engineering as well as vibration. So It will search for the records who have both tags into the record. Yes, it will need to add multiple tags in the record.
